Challenge:

A software company specializing in accounting software was implementing Public Holiday Pay calculation feature. The business was puzzled by the superficial implementation of the procedure by then market software products.

As part of increased compliance the software company hired us flow chart Employment Standards Acts of each Canadian Province.

Solution:

We tackle the challenge most successfully by doing the following:

1. Use Employment Standards Act (ESA) of a jurisdiction (province) as a base

2. Go through case law as applicable

3. Go through "Facts Sheets" supplied by each province

4. Search for relevant acts that over-ride base ESA (for example, some provinces like Alberta, has a separate flow for Forestry)

5. Compile a flow chart based on the above

• Recommended a particular software structure to accommodate a potential change in regulation
